Student Employee – Student Affairs Assistant (Work-Study)

Student employment eligibility :

Students must be awarded Federal College Work-study to apply for any Student Employment positions.

College Work-study (CWS) provides part-time jobs for students attending Ashford University with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expense. The program encourages community service work and work related to the recipient’s course of study.

The Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work-study (FWS), and Federal Perkins Loan programs are called campus-based programs because they are administered directly by the financial aid office at each participating school.

Position Summary:

Ashford University is seeking high-achieving students looking for experience working in a program office or other diverse working environments. The Student Affairs Assistant (Work Study) is a part-time employment opportunity in the Ashford University Student Affairs department, and may be assigned to support specific programs or functional areas (i.e. Access and Wellness, Student Success, etc.) based on program of study. The role will be placed in the Ashford University San Diego campus, and will need to be available Monday through Friday, between 8pm to 5pm. The Ashford University San Diego campus is located at 8620 Spectrum Center Blvd, San Diego, CA 92126. Administrative duties will be completed on-site.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Answer incoming calls and take messages for Student Affairs professional staff

  • Respond to incoming emails and/or forward to appropriate Student Affairs professional staff for response

  • Support with general office work including filing, photo copying, and performing data entry accurately

  • Assist Student Affairs Intake Specialist with processing and setting-up outreach campaigns, as needed

  • Completing special assignments as assigned

  • Other duties as assigned

Student-Employment Requirements:

  • Be eligible for Federal Work Study funding

  • Enrolled in a degree-seeking program with Ashford University

  • Must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress

  • Have a minimum 15 hours per week available for work study employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Additional Specifics:

  • Supervisor: Carmel Malixi, Student Affairs Compliance and Quality Assurance Manager

  • Pay rate: $12.50

  • Estimated length of the assignment: Based on eligible funding

  • Evaluation Procedure: Student workers will be evaluated on eligibility and performance as needed

Education:

  • Be enrolled in a degree seeking program at Ashford University. May be assigned to support specific programs and/or functional areas within Student Affairs based on program of study.

Education Requirements:

If a degree or education credit minimum is required for the position, all education must be conferred by a regionally accredited or approved nationally accredited institution. All candidates must provide proof of higher education (official transcripts) upon request.
